Petaling Jaya, 19 October - A large number of players participated in a recent Magic: the Gathering (MTG) Open Championship event in Atria Shopping Gallery, Petaling Jaya, organized by Animart, an official distributing organization of Magic: the Gathering in Indonesia, Singapore and Malaysia. From October 18 to 19, Animart hosted three types of activities to attract different MTG players form the whole Malaysia.
Magic: The Gathering, as the world's first Trading Card Game, has attracted people from all over the world for over 30 years and has a large number of fans in Malaysia.
Prior to this, Animart had organized a same event in Singapore from October 11 to 12, while holding event in Malaysia and Indonesia both during October 18 and 19.
“This event can be seen as a way to give back to our players. We're doing this out of gratitude, just hoping to bring joy to Magic fans in Southeast Asia,” said by Dick Teh, the Animart manager, “We already held this event for few years, and we still planning to hold another one next year.”

Since the establishment of the Magic: The Gathering professional tour system in 1996, it has been organizing tournaments all over the world, including Southeast Asia. Today, in Asia, Wizards of the Coast (WOC), the official developer of MTG is still committed to organizing various types of tournaments in Japan, but has gradually begun to ignore the events and player requirements in Southeast Asia, and Malaysia is no exception.
“ It can also be considered a way to offset the negative impact of official events lacking,” replied Dick Teh, “There are still a large group of Magic: The Gathering fans in Indonesia, Malaysia and Singapore.”
During the Animart Open Championship, there are totally five official Magic: The Gathering store are invited to the event showing their products and company cultural.
“This event also gave us a lot of opportunities, especially for publicity and display. Because my store is relatively far from Kuala Lumpur, such a large-scale event can play a role in promoting our store's reputation,” said by Nicholas Lee, the manager of a MTG store called The Collective.

Animart Open Championship not only attracted MTG fans from around Kuala Lumpur, but also inspired many onlookers in the shopping gallery to learn about or participate in the event. Meanwhile, many players from other parts of Malaysia also came to participate in the celebration.
Ky Lim, a MTG player from Pulau Pinang, said, “This event gave us a good opportunity, Such activities can mobilize the enthusiasm of fans in Malaysia, which is particularly valuable to us when the MTG official ignores it.”
The Animart Open Championship ended at 7:31 PM on October 19. This event provided a rare opportunity for Magic: The Gathering fans in Malaysia and was considered a key event in the region this year, attracting considerable attention from people.
