A large crowd gathered at Dewan Gemilang, Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia (UKM), to join the vibrant Citra Fun Walk 2025 — a campus-wide event aimed at promoting health, wellness, and social connection.

Mr. Mohd. Noor Azran Mohd. Noor, head of the Citra Fun Walk 2025 organizing committee, said the idea behind the event was to encourage students and staff to adopt healthier habits in a fun and accessible way. “Our aim with Citra Fun Walk was to create a platform that promotes a healthy and active lifestyle,” he said. “It’s not just about walking five kilometers — it’s about moving together, laughing together, and motivating one another to make wellness a part of everyday life.”

Jointly organized by the UKM Student Affairs Department (HEP-UKM), the UKM Student Union (Kesatuan Mahasiswa), the University Sports Centre, and the Centre for Citra Studies, the event was a vibrant celebration of health and joy.

The event was officially launched by Prof. Ts. Dr. Norinsan Kamil Othman, Director of Student Affairs, who underscored the significance of programs like Citra Fun Walk in enriching campus life and promoting a more balanced approach to student development.

“Our mission extends beyond academics — we strive to shape individuals who are not only intellectually capable but also physically healthy and emotionally grounded,” he remarked. “Citra Fun Walk embodies our belief that a thriving university community is rooted in well-being, joy, and meaningful connection. Seeing students and staff come together with such energy and enthusiasm is truly uplifting.”

He went on to highlight that incorporating physical activity into campus culture supports UKM’s broader educational philosophy — one that values resilience, adaptability, and the overall well-being of its graduates as much as academic success.

Regular physical activity isn’t just good for the body — it’s a proven boost for the brain. According to the World Health Organization (WHO), consistent exercise enhances concentration, memory retention, and overall cognitive performance. For university students juggling assignments, exams, and emotional stress, staying active can make all the difference.

Multiple studies in higher education further support this, linking physical well-being to higher academic achievement and improved mental health. In the context of student life, something as simple as a campus walk can spark clearer thinking, better focus, and a more resilient mindset — all essential tools for academic success.

Among the cheerful participants was He Yumeng, a second-year student from the Faculty of Economics and Management (FEP), who found the event to be a refreshing escape from the usual academic routine.

She described the walk as joyful and energizing, filled with music, laughter, and a strong sense of togetherness. For her, it was a chance to meet new friends, move freely, and enjoy the outdoors. She expressed appreciation for the organizers' effort and said she was already looking forward to joining again in the future.

Adelina, a psychology student, shared a similar sentiment. She noted that university life often revolves around deadlines and assignments, making it easy to neglect one’s well-being. The Fun Walk, she felt, was a valuable reminder to pause and enjoy the present moment. The colourful powder stations added a playful element that made the experience even more memorable. For her, it was not just a physical activity but a much-needed emotional lift.

With energy high and spirits lifted, Citra Fun Walk 2025 left participants not only with colorful memories but also a renewed appreciation for health, connection, and campus life.

UKM has been actively promoting a culture of health and well-being across campus, with events like Citra Fun Walk becoming a regular feature of student life. In conjunction with its 55th anniversary, the university will host a 5.5-kilometre walk, “Langkah @5.5KM Jubli Zamrud,” on May 27 at Dataran Panggung Seni. The event is part of the Jubli Zamrud celebration.

Such an event was deeply meaningful — it was about taking a moment to slow down, breathe, and reconnect with ourselves and the people around us as we moved forward together.
