Donors Queued up to Donate Blood

BANGI, 19 October — A large number of residents turned out for a two-day community blood donation programme at KIPMall Bangi this weekend, organized in partnership with the Pusat Darah Negara Malaysia (PDN) and PeKa B40. Running from 11:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. on October 18 and 19, the drive drew sustained participation across the sessions.

Fariehah, head of the marketing department at KIPMall, said that the location and timing were designed to maximize accessibility for nearby communities. “Many Bangi residents live close to KIPMall. By bringing the donation team here, we offer a convenient venue for people who wish to donate but are unsure where to go, and the mall also benefits from increased visitor traffic,” she said.

“This weekend coincides with the Deepavali public holiday, when we expect higher footfall, and that helps more people to take part in blood donation.”

She added that KIPMall organizes similar campaigns twice a month, and each event typically attracts more than 100 donors, with the number often rising during festive or public holidays. Such consistent participation, she said, not only strengthens the national blood supply but also reflects growing public awareness of the importance of regular blood donation.

An on-site PDN blood-collection clinician said the centre conducts numerous mobile drives across Malaysia each year in collaboration with varied host sites. “Community-based collections like this are vital for maintaining a stable national blood supply and, ultimately, for saving lives,” the clinician said.

She further noted that such mobile blood drives are not limited to Bangi alone. They are held at various shopping centers and community locations across Malaysia, enabling wider public participation and helping maintain a stable national blood supply.

In interviews conducted at the venue, many donors reported long donation histories, with most saying they had given blood more than ten times.

Among them was a family in which both parents donated while accompanying their school-age child. The parents said they hope their participation would set a good example, describing blood donation as a practical way to teach their child about selflessness and helping others.

KIPMall and PDN said they plan to continue collaborating on regular community drives to ensure a reliable supply of blood for hospitals nationwide.
