Bangi, May 17-the Basic Life Support First Aid Workshop (CPR) hosted by the 2025 Red Cross Day Carnival Secretariat was successfully held on the fifth floor of Pusanika. 30 participants from China, Indonesia, Malaysia and other countries systematically mastered CPR skills through theoretical learning and practical training, and the event was a complete success.

On the day of the event, professional first aid instructors explained in detail the CPR process, chest compression points and AED (automatic external defibrillator) use through case demonstrations and simulation props. In the group practice session, the trainees used the mannequin for practical operation, and the instructors corrected the compression depth, frequency and artificial respiration specifications one by one. Malaysian local trainees took the initiative to use bilingual to help international students understand the details of the operation, forming a "mutual learning" atmosphere on the spot.

Fatin, a Malaysian student majoring in Psychology course at FSSK in ukm and the main organizer of the event, said with emotion: “I feel very warm to see people from different cultural backgrounds gather together to learn to save people. First aid is the common language of all mankind. After the event, we set up a ‘first aid mutual aid group’ to share emergency telephone numbers and rescue resources from various countries, hoping to spread the concept of ‘life first’ further.”

"The compression frequency must be maintained at 100-120 times per minute, and the arm must be perpendicular to the chest." The instructor emphasized the key details. Indonesian student Anya said after the practice: "Teamwork training is very real. For example, someone needs to take care of compression and command the scene at the same time. This made me realize the importance of staying calm during first aid."

Chinese student Gao Yifan (Gao Yifan, a student and a  participant from China majoring in media and communication course at FSSK in ukm), shared her experience of the training: "This training has helped me go from 'knowing in theory' to 'being able to do it in practice'. The simulated interference scenarios set by the instructor (such as simulated patient vomiting) are very challenging, but they also taught me to keep the rhythm of operation under pressure. In the future, I will apply to the school to organize a first aid knowledge sharing session so that more Chinese students can master this skill."

Anya, an Indonesian student and a participant majoring in economics course at FEP in ukm, mentioned: “I specially recorded the operation video and sent it to my friends in Indonesia. They all hope that similar training can be introduced locally. I met friends from Malaysia and China during the event. We agreed to exchange first aid knowledge in English in the future. This cross-border exchange is very meaningful.”

Fatin, the person in charge of the event, said that this workshop received more than 50 applications, far exceeding the expected number of places, reflecting the public's strong demand for first aid knowledge. In the future, the organizer will launch a "Community First Aid Tour Class" in cooperation with the National University of Malaysia (KMUKM), and plans to cooperate with universities in China, Indonesia and other countries to carry out cross-border first aid training and exchange activities.

"The popularization of first aid skills requires continuous efforts. We hope to make 'everyone knows first aid' a reality through more diversified activities." Fatin said. With the advancement of the "#StepsForLife" initiative, this kind of cross-cultural first aid training will become an important link to connect different countries and protect life safety.
